Bursitis

Bursitis is a painful condition that can impact several areas of the body, including the shoulders, hip, knee and ankles. It develops when sac-like structures called bursa become inflamed. These structures are found where tendons attach to the bone and they reduce friction.

The most common types of bursitis in the hips, knees and feet are psoas bursitis, trochanteric bursitis, suprapatellar and infrapatellar bursitis, and retrocalcaneal bursitis.

Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a disorder of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a strong band-like tissue on the sole of the foot, and its purpose is to help distribute loads through the foot during weight-bearing activities – i.e walking and running.

The main site of pain in plantar fasciitis is where the fascia attaches to the heel bone.

Soft Tissue/Sports Injuries

Most people will, at one point, have experienced a soft tissue injury to a muscle or ligament. These injuries are commonplace in a sporting environment, but you can cause an injury to muscle or ligaments lifting, bending, or with a fall. Symptoms of a muscle or ligament injury can include pain, swelling, bruising, difficulty walking, and reduced movement. Thankfully, soft tissue injuries tend to be some of the easiest injuries to treat and, with appropriate treatment and self-management, resolve relatively quickly.
